A configuration error in Microsoft’s terribly-named cloud office product “Business Productivity Online Suite” has disclosed the address books of customers to each other.

Microsoft says that it fixed the configuration problem within two hours of discovering the problem, and that only a small number of illegitimate downloads occurred. However, the company didn’t say when the faulty configuration was pushed to its servers, so it’s not known how long the problem has existed. The company says it has notified all affected customers.

This situation once again highlights the inherent problems with cloud-based solutions and the fact that Microsoft seems even more clumsy than other companies when it comes to deploying and running them.
